    Kihon Renshu Ho

    Kihon Renshu Ho - Fundamental Techniques and Methods.

    This article serves as both a fundamental gude for techniques and methods as well as terminology for and during training. Associated pages with photo's are forthcoming. All Waza [techniques] may be executed as Sonoba [standing still] or Ido [with movement].

    Tachi kata - 立ち方 - Stances

    • Hanzenkutsu Dachi - 半前屈立 - Half front stance [60% front:40% back weight distribution]
    • Heisoku Dachi - 閉足立 - Closed feet stance, heels and toes together.
    • Heiko Dachi - 並行立ち - Parallel stance [shoulder width apart or one foot length apart]
    • Kokutsu Dachi - 後屈立 - Back stance [30% front:70% back weight distribution]
    • Kosa Dachi - 交差立 - Backside crossed legs stance
    • Moto Dachi - 基立 or 元立 - Front side crossed legs stance
    • Motobo Dachi - Front stance with hips open [back heel on the same line at 90°]
    • Musubi Dachi - 結び立 - Knot-shaped stance [heels together with feet at 45°]
    • Neko Ashi Dachi - 猫足立 - Cat foot stance [10% front:90% back weight distribution]
    • Renoji Dachi - レの字立 - The Japanese letter "Re" stance [or "L" stance] [30% front:70% back weight distribution], much like Neko Ashi Dachi however having the front heel on the ground.
    • Sagi Ashi Dachi - 鷺足立 - Crane stance, standing on 1 foot the other knee high [0% front:100% back weight distribution]
    • Sanchin Dachi - 三戦立 - Three battles stance.
      • Sanchin Heiko Dachi - 三戦並行立 - Sanchin Dachi tension in legs however with both feet straight.
    • Shiko Dachi - 四股立 - Square stance
      • Shiko Dachi Heikaku - 四股立平角 - Lower form stance at 0°
      • Shiko Dachi Shakaku - 四股立斜角 - Lower form stance at 45°
      • Shiko Dachi Chokkaku - 四股立直角 - Lower form stance at 90°
    • Sotohachi Dachi - 外八字立 - Outward shape of the number eight stance
    • Uchihachi Dachi - 内八字立 - Inward shape of the number eight stance
    • Zenkutsu Dachi - 前屈立 - Front stance [60% front:40% back weight distribution]
    Uke Waza - 受け技 - Blocking [Deflecting] Techniques 
    • Age Uke [proper name] - 揚げ受け - Rising block [aka Jodan Uke]
    • Chudan Uke [see Yoko Uke]
    • Gedan Barai - Lower block [starts from the shoulder]. 
      • Note, this block does not exist in Goju-Ryu Karatedo
      • Harai Otoshi Uke - 払落受け - Dropping circle lower block
      • Kaishu Harai Uke - Open hand dropping circle lower block]
    • Hiki Uke - Pulling from 
      • Pulling from Kakae block [see below]
    • Hazushi Waza - Releasing techniques [Kata Saifa]
    • Kakae Uke - 掛受け - Hooking block [aka outward knife hand block]
    • Ko Uke - Wrist block
      • [Jodan] Ko Uke - upper wrist block [attach thumbs to ring and middle finger]
      • Yoko [Chudan] Ko Uke - sideways wrist block [attahc thumbs to the middle and index finger]
    • Kuri Uke - Circular elbow block
      • Kata Seiunchin & Kururunfa
      • aka Yama Uke - Mountain side block
    • Jodan Uke - Rising block [aka Age Uke]
    • Mawashi Uke [see Toraguchi] - 廻受け -Double circle block [open hand]
    • Osae Uke - 押受け - Pressing block
    • Otoshi Uke - Dropping circle block [aka Harai Otoshi Uke]
    • Shuto Uke - 手刀受け - Knife hand block
    • Sukui Uke - 掬受け - Scooping block
    • Teisho Uke - 底掌受け - Palm heel block
    • Toraguchi [proper name for Mawashi Uke] - Double circle block [aka Mawashi Uke]
    • Uchi Uke - 內受け - Inside fore arm block
    • Uwa Uke Shita Barai - Age Uke & Harai Otoshi Uke simultaneously
    • Yoko Uke [proper name for gojuryu Chudan Uke] - 横受け - Circle block; center block, elbow one fist away from body and forarm at 45°
    • Yoko Uke Shita Barai [Double BLock] - 横受け下払い - Yoko Uke & Harai Otoshi Uke simultaneously 
    • Yama Uke - Mountain side block 
      • Kata Seiunchin & Kururunfa
      • aka Kuri Uke - Circular elbow block

    Tsuki Waza - 突き技- Punching Techniques

    • Age Tsuki - 揚げ突き - Rising punch
    • Awase Tsuki - 合せ突き - Double punch [High & low]
    • Chuguko Tsuki - Chinese fist punch [Elbow at side with fist half turned]
    • Gyaku Tsuki - Reverse strike [side opposing front foot]
    • Hiki Tsuki - 引き突き - Pulling punch
    • Hojo Oshi - Augmented strike [Kata Seiunchin]
      • aka Sankaku Ken
    • Ippon Nukite Zuki - 一本貫手突き - One-finger punch
    • Jun Tsuki - Side thrust punch [positioned from Shiko Dachi Chokkaku].
    • Kizami Tsuki - 刻み突き - Leading punch, or jab
    • Morote Tsuki - 諸手突き - Double punch [parallel]
      • Kaishu Morote Uke - Open hand double strike [with palms]
    • Nukite Tsuki - 贯手突き - Finger punch
    • Sanbon Tsuki - 突き - Triple punch [jodan, chudan, gedan]
    • Sankaku Ken - Augmented strike [Kata Seiunchin]
      • aka Hojo Oshi
    • Seiken Tsuki - 正拳 - Square punch
      • Jodan Tsuki - Upper strike
      • Chudan Tsuki - Middle strik
      • Gedan Tsuki - Lower strike
    • Shita Tsuki - 三本突き - Digging punch [palm side up]
    • Sokuho Tsuki - Palm heel punch

    Ate Waza - 当身技 - Striking Techniques

    • Hiji Ate - 肘当て - Elbow strike
    • Hiza Ate - 膝当て - Knee strike
    • Teisho Ate - 底掌当 - Palm heel strike

    Uchi Waza - 打ち技 - Hitting Techniques

    • Furi Uchi - 振り打ち - Circle strike Haito Uchi ridge hand strike
    • Haito Uchi - Inside knife hand strike.
    • Ura Uchi - 裏打ち - Knuckle strike (palm side up)
    • Ura-ken Uchi - Knuckle strike (palm side up)
    • Shuto Uchi - 手刀打ち - Knife hand strike
      • Nihon Shuto Uchi - Shotokan style knife hand strike
      • Yoko Shuto Uchi - Broad Knife hand strike [such as that in Gekisai]
    • Tettsui Uchi - 鉄槌打ち - Bottom fist strike (or hammer fist strike)

    Keri Waza - 蹴り技 - Kicking Techniques

    • Ashi Barai - Low sweeping leg technique.
    • Gedan Geri - Low kick
    • Gedan Mawashi Geri - low round kick to leg
    • Fumikomi Geri - Pressing heel kick [stomp kick]
    • Kakato Geri - 踵蹴り - Kicking with the foot edge
    • Kansetsu Geri - 関節蹴り - Heel to knee joint kick
    • Kekomi Geri - 蹴込み蹴り - To the rear kick.
    • Kin Geri - 金蹴り - Groin snap kick.
    • Kogen Geri - Groin snap kick [aka...same as above].
    • Mae Geri - 前蹴り - Front kick
    • Mawashi Geri - 回し蹴り - Round house kick
    • Sokuto Geri - 足刀蹴り - Joint kick
    • Ura Mawashi Geri - 裏回し 蹴り - Back thrust kick
    • Ushiro Geri - 後ろ蹴り - Dropping back kick
    • Yoko Geri - Round Kick [knee up first, just as in Mae Geri however, then rotates]

    Renzoku Waza - 連続技 - Combinations

    • Sanbon Doza - A kihon Ido with three [3] combinations.
    • Yonhon Doza - A kihon Ido with four [4] combinations.
    • Gohon Doza - A kihon Ido with five [5] combinations.
