New to the board? Introduce yourself here. Tell us a little something we might want to know [or might not want to know]! Simple details are best,
Where are you from?
Age?
Length of time training [in Gojuryu]?
Where you teach or where you train?
Major accomplishments?
Who is your Sensei?
What is your Kaiha?

I'm 20 years old, I've been in the martial arts for roughly six years now. I began my training in goju-kai at Waterloo Martial Arts Accademy in Waterloo, ON Canada under Sensei Gregg Skoryk. I have haven't been training for the last 2 years, but I plan on getting back to my old training habbits.
Cheers |

Hi, I'm Carl. 53 yrs. young. Student of Okinawan Goju-ryu for about 12 yrs now this time. I say this time because I studied in the early 70s and got to the rank of 2nd kyu. I'm now a Sandan blackbelt. And I love Okinawan Goju-ryu.
Nice forum. It's about time we got one fo rGoju-ryu.
Thanks,
Carl |

My name is Jim Prouty, age an ancient 48 and have been studying karate/kobudo for 33 years. I hold a yondan grade from Teruo Chinen, Sensei of Jundokan Int'l in Okinawan Goju Ryu. I also hold rokudan grade in Machimura Seido ha Suide from Zen Okinawa Karate-Kobudo Renmei.
I started my Goju training in the Goju Kai organization of Gosei Yamaguchi for about 10 yrs, then a few years with Higa's Bugeikan before I parted ways with my original Sensei. I found Chinen Sensei about 22 years ago and have been working with him since.
Sadly, in 2001 I underwent spinal surgery that left me quite impaired but I enjoy seeing my students getting "killed on the floor" by Sensei. And when can, I can still get the sweat pouring out of them....Regards |

Welcome, Wikus.
Is this the same Wikus from the Goju-ryu group on Yahoo?

Welcome, Jim. Sorry to hear about your spinal problems. Will you ever be able to train again?

Actually it does however most will be slow to change over. This group will likely outgrow our yahoo group very fast. |

Hey there everybody, my name is Rob (21 yrs) and I'm in the deep south of Dunedin, New Zealand. I've been training for just a few months now in Goju-Ryu under Shihan Colin McIntyre and I am really enjoying it.
I'm grateful to be a part of this community and I hope these forums proliferate our understanding of the arts we train in. |

Hey my name is Dan and you can tell by my username that my favorite kata is seyunchin. I have been training 4 years now and Approaching my 1st degree Black Belt test in roughly a month. I am quite nervous about it not because of my kata which looks great or the required 5 page essay but we have to run 5 miles straight without stopping . It will be a challenge to me but I can do it. |

Welcome, Dan. Good luck on your test. But a 5 page essay and run 5 miles? It sounds a little extreme to me. I had only to do 1 kata, (Shisochin) Kiso kumite, and Sanchin with shime.
