This History of Goju-ryu (from www.Jundokan.jp)
A brief history of Goju-ryu as published on www.Jundokan.jp Okinawan Gojuryu was founded by Chojun Miyagi Sensei. Chojun Sensei was born in the Higashi Machi district of Naha City on April 4, 1888. At the age of 14, he began to train directly under the supervision of Naha Te founder Kanryo Higaonna Sensei. At that time Kanryo Sensei had already traveled to Fuzhou and studied Chine...... full article |

| Forums back but still more to be done. |
Well - we finally got the forums back up and live running. There are a total of 12 users who's posts were completely lost however those particular users hadn't logged in for at least 12 months or so.
We are still working on salvaging the private messages [PM]. Because the db encrypts the PM system it is a much bigger job to unscramble it's contents and just a big an issue is it's a SQL db. Please be patient with this one.
Shout-box? Well, 100% of the shout-box is lost. This will be a completely new shout-box and we'll see a few nice changes as it will also be standardized, not proprietary as our previous version.
Good to see everyone back and that you are all still around. As fast as the PM system comes back online is as fast as we'll see the old users back here with us again so again, please be patient if you haven't seen a few friends online with us for a while.

 September Newsletter
It has been a while since our last newsletter and we are happy to have returned. Although Gojuryu.net didn't actually go anywhere we did spend a huge amount of time and resources on improving the site, overhauling the user interface, adding additional features and reviving old favourites.
On that subject; "Change is good" and "Without risk we cannot expect reward;" brings us to the point of a previous months opening thought. When was the last time you had change in your training? A refreshment of the syllabus? A shake up in the class? Going through elementary school we likely changed teachers every year and it was obviousely good for us. Now we are not saying quit your dojo or kick out your students, but how about something different? My personal recommendation "A night of 1,000 Gyaku Tsuki." Yup that would be 1,000 per side! Takes a few hours to get through and I sugguest having the students doing the count to "Ju" not the teacher. Switch to the other side every 100 or so. Give a certificate award to each participant because it sure isn't easy and host the event at the end of every school year. But again - it is only a suguestion :-)
Gojuryu.net Membership Drive:
We never thought of doing this before however just a thought; spread the word about www.gojuryu.net. It's free after all and wouldn't hurt finding old friends or making new friends that could just be in your own back yard. Our membership drive is purely for the purpose to spread the word that there is a free venue available in these hard times so be sure to forward this newsletter to email list, Dojo and association friends weather they are Gojuryu practitioners or not. We are sure they will find some article or forum thread well worth reading and adding their commentary. Tell them to come and visit the 2nd oldest and still the strongest Martial Arts community on the internet; the All Gojuryu Network is your portal to the world of Karatedo.

USA Karate Remembers Ridgely Abele
On the morning of December 10, 2009, Ridgely Abele was called home. The passing of this iconic man of the martial arts was a great loss for the karate community and his family. Ridgely Abele stepped through boundaries, crossed lines of style and ideology, brought science to traditional training methods, and embodied the Martial Art way of life so robustly, he demonstrated to others how to live and train.
