Onegaishimasu,

Mina-sama, I was speaking to Hershel Sensei last week [San Jose dojo SMAC] and he told me "keep the momentum going". It played around in my mind a bit then I realized this is almost the end of March 2007 already. How much have we accomplished? When is the last time I revisited my goals? [A shame because my goals are posted on the cork-board at my desk]. What's the next short term step and can I clearly see my long term objective? I keep a copy of my "Champions Creed" posted at my desk and read it over and over while looking in the mirror. Then I pushed myself like no other day thus far this year...... and ya know what, I feel great about it. I dug deep to find something inside that I needed to revisit and just 'went for it' - nothing gained is nothing lost and I'm happy to go into the weekend with a positive outlook for training and relaxation. Only us crazy Karate people could possibly understand how that is at all possible.

Special Events worth attending:
Book to watch for :-)
Without giving it all away, something special this way comes. Still two [2] months out and just completed translation, this historical text [never translated for print in the past] with offer significant insight to the roots of Goju Ryu Karate Do as well as the character of Chojun Miyagi Sensei - the founder of Goju Ryu. We cannot release the name of the Author or the Title however we can tell you that this is an absolute must have for every Sensei of and style Karate Do from Okinawa or Japan. [Be prepared to update your historical outlines!!!]

New Printing Gogen Yamaguchi; Goju Ryu Karate Do Kyohan [Paperback] $45.00
The hardcover book is officially sold out [offered at $100.00] however now available is a full sized paperback version. The exact same material and information for less than half the price of the hard cover printing. If you have a training lineage in relationship to Yamaguchi Sensei, this is a 'must have'.

Dojo in the spotlight.
For the March 'Dojo in the month,' comes [put on your Da dunta daa's]
CHUCK MERRIMAN'S KARATE INTERNATIONAL. As many of us in the general Karate community know, Chuck Merriman Sensei has long been a corner-stone for Goju Ryu and Karate in general since the 1960's and it's time to pay tribute. Today Chuck Merriman, his son Chad and their clubs and dojo are an official overseas member of the "Okinawa Gojuryu Karate-do So Honbu Jundokan" and are held in the highest respects. Mr. Chuck Merriman Sensei, Thank your for your past and continued leadership by example !!!

Knowledge and tradition.
In Japan, on March 20th 2007, comes Shunbun no Hi [or] Higan no Chu-Nichi; which, in English, is the day we call '1st day of Spring' however not the same practices exist everywhere. Many Japanese visit their family tombs on this day in the middle of the week of Higan to pay their respects to their ancestors. People weed their family tombs, and leave flowers, incense and ohagi (sweet rice balls covered with red bean paste). It is tradition that ancestors' spirits prefer round food! Japanese consider this period the changing of the season, because it is usually around Higan that the cold front hanging over the Japanese islands weakens, and the weather changes to spring. Thus we have a saying "Atsusa samusa mo Higan made" ("Heat and cold last until Higan").
